Vaginal Birth After C-Section (VBAC)

For mothers who've had a C-section, there are options for your next pregnancy. In the past, women were told if they had a cesarean section all subsequent births would have to be C-section, too. That's no longer true. Eastern New Mexico Medical Center offers mothers the option of a vaginal birth after cesarean, also known as VBAC, if their provider agrees it is safe to do so.

In addition to being VBAC friendly, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and its maternity care team are happy to work with your midwife or doula. We recognize that every birth is unique and that our patients work hard developing a birth plan designed for comfort and peace of mind. The first step is to speak with your physician or provider about whether you are a candidate for a VBAC. Click here to find out more about VBACs at ENMMC.

Midwife Services

A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is a specific kind of advanced practice nurse that specializes in women's healthcare services. CNMs are licensed, independent health care providers with prescriptive authority in all 50 states. CNMs focus on participating as partners in a woman's care and generally take a low-intervention, holistic approach to healthcare. Midwifery as practiced by CNMs encompasses a range of primary health care services for women from adolescence beyond menopause. These services include primary care; gynecologic and family planning services; preconception care; and care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
