Our OB emergency room is located at Northwest Health – Porter. Board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists are on site around the clock daily to staff our OB Emergency Department, a service to care for moms experiencing unexpected symptoms and concerns.
Expectant mothers who may be experiencing complications see an OB-GYN specialist who can evaluate the concerns and provide care until the patient can follow up with her own doctor. These dedicated physicians can support the care of high-risk pregnancy patients and are on site to deliver babies for patients who don't have an obstetrician.
Northwest Health – Porter provides one of the few Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in the area with neonatologists always available on site to provide higher level medical attention for infants who may need it. The caregivers in our NICU are known for working closely with parents and will encourage you to have as much contact with your infant as possible. Each NICU bassinet is located in a private, critical care room with ample space for parents to be with their baby.
The Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Northwest Health – La Porte, also known as a Special Care Nursery, has the capability to provide neonatal resuscitation, stabilize newborn infants who are ill and care for those born as early as 32 weeks gestation. If necessary, infants needing a higher level of care benefit from additional support from Northwest Health – Porter, where neonatologists are available around the clock to provide immediate consultations or care.
At Northwest Health, we aim to provide our patients with high-quality, compassionate care, in comfortable surroundings. We want our patients to experience exceptional care during one of the most exciting times of life. This is why we are extremely proud to share that Northwest Health – Porter has been designated a “Baby Friendly”* Hospital by Baby-Friendly USA and designated a Level III Obstetrical Service by the Indiana Hospital Association. Northwest Health – La Porte was voted a “Best Maternity Hospital” in 2021 and 2022 by Newsweek magazine.
